What is L-Citrulline?
L-citrulline is a non-essential amino acid produced in the liver and intestines. It can also surprisingly be found in watermelons and calabaza squash. And around the world today, you find many people using l-citrulline for different conditions. Alzheimer's disease, muscle weakness, erectile dysfunction, high blood pressure, and even diabetes.
How L Citrulline Works? L-Citrulline vs L-Arginine.
There are 2 mechanisms at play. One which you probably are familiar with. Its actions on the L-arginine-NO pathway, such that following NO synthesis the smooth muscle may relax leading to vasodilation which may improve the delivery of blood (and oxygen) to the tissues.

There is actually some evidence that l-citrulline may address erectile dysfunction even better than l-arginine.
There is also a hidden mechanism going on in the background as well. And that is that "Citrulline may exert its ergogenic effects through this mechanism by detoxifying ammonia during high-intensity exercise, thereby enhancing the aerobic utilization of pyruvate and ATP supply to skeletal muscle." Which is a big bonus to athletes right. Because in theory to put it simple and break that down, if you bring down the ammonia production in your workouts, you also bring down the lactate, which will then let all the pyruvate you have to get converted to acetyl-CoA, which then increases ATP supply to your muscles.

Which L-Citrulline is Best? L Citrulline vs Citrulline Malate.
There are 2 main types. L-citrulline. The form naturally found in your body, and in some foods, like casaba melons and cantaloupe. The second is citrulline malate. Which is a form of citrulline with malic acid. More research is actually needed to determine if one works better than the other.

L Citrulline for Blood Pressure. L citrulline Nitric Oxide.
Second extensive study was done on decreasing blood pressure, which is still a little tricky because of whats known as the l-arginie paradox.
L Citrulline for ED. L-citrulline for erectile dysfunction.

How Much L-Citrulline? L citrulline dosage for ed, bodybuilding, pump.
A safe dosage is anywhere from 3 to 6 grams a day. Start with the lowest amount. You can always increase the dosage to see if you find any more benefits as long as you don’t experience any side effects. A good combo if youre wanting both is 500 mg l-arginine with 250 mg l-citrulline. But make sure to go with A supplement that is 3rd party tested of course and made in a gmp compliant factory.
L Citrulline Side Effects. L citrulline supplement side effects.
Now for the most part. L-citrulline is tolerated very well. A lot of people dont experience any side effects within the dosing range I mentioned. But amino acid supplementation, can cause an upset stomach at times, like bloating, cramping, diarrhea, and sweating. Also, a drop in blood pressure may occur. Speak with your doctor before taking any supplement to see if you are clear to take it.
