A Montana farming family confronts the encroachment of others on their land. Forry J. as Lloyd. Smith is a seasoned hand in the rodeo world. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often “forgets” his Montanan accent and slips back into his usual SoCal speaking voice. On WatchMojo: The 10 Best Summer TV Shows Not on the Radar (2018) (Reviews of the first two seasons only) I didn’t expect to like this show, but the story, acting, and cinematography are excellent. It’s basically a mob war in Montana, with occasional huge doses of testosterone (cows on horseback while fishing with guns)! Costner is a veteran actor as Dutton’s boss. The show is at its best when the chessboard shows the Duttons’ moves and the engagements of their enemies. The series gets a bit long-winded at the beginning of the second season, but picks up again halfway through. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link as Monica and she plays a weak hand poorly, the story is awkward and the acting just misses the mark. I think Cole Houser as Rip is perhaps the strongest performance (without Costner himself) and I’m really looking forward to everything. Darshan Rip was there. Thomas Rainwater is great too. The stories whisper and the scenery is beautiful. Cormac McCarthy’s "All The Pretty Horses" A little more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show hits similarly. I highly recommend it and wish I didn’t have to wait so long to watch it.
